JetBlue is in the process of upgrading their in flight payment systems with iPad minis. This provides the perfect opportunity to offer Apple Pay in the sky, and that's exactly what the company will do. As you can see in the video above from USA TODAY, JetBlue will allow passengers to purchase items in flight using Apple Pay. The JetBlue representative says other mobile payment options will come down the pike in the future, but for now its just Apple Pay.
The Apple Pay option will roll out soon on flights to and from JFK to LAX and SFO. The program will roll out to more routes in March and escalate from there.
In addition to making the payment process easy for passengers, JetBlue is giving Apple a huge amount of free marketing. Isn't it amazing how other companies want to be associated with Apple's brand and therefore brag about their support of Apple products? Just think of all the banks who tout their Apple Pay support. That only gives Apple more free marketing. Brilliant!
