Sprint announced their Q1 2013 financial results and it looks like they've sold a fair share of iPhones. The company sold 5 million smartphones, 1.5 million of which were iPhones. Compared to AT&T and Verizon the number seems low, even as a percentage of total smartphone sales. Sprint says 43 percent of iPhone sales were to new Sprint customers which is good news for Sprint.
Android phones have larger displays and some people really like that, but people still want iPhones. Apple sold over 37 million iPhones last quarter so users have spoken. There is still a large market for the iPhone even if its screen size is only 4 inches.
Eighty-six percent of quarterly Sprint platform postpaid handset sales were smartphones, including more than 1.5 million iPhones sold during the quarter. Forty-three percent of iPhone sales were to new customers, a rate that continues to outperform larger competitors.
