Apple has quietly been working on Maps ever since the service launched. Apple was widely criticized for shipping Maps prematurely as customers complained of missing and wrong information in Maps. We even saw the police in Australia advise people NOT to rely on Maps after several motorists were directed off the beaten track by Maps.
According to The Loop’s Jim Dalrymple, Apple has been working to improve Maps over the last six months, and has recently added Flyover support and 3D building images to several new cities.
Apple has a long way to go with Maps as they let the world down with a half baked product. Most users, me included, use Google Maps for iOS instead of Apple's Maps. Tim Cook promised that he was putting the weight of the company behind fixing maps, and it looks like he's following through on his promise. It's taking longer than I'd like, but I'm glad they are working quietly to improve Maps.

In addition to all of these changes, Apple has updated city labels in cities worldwide and improved satellite imagery in a number of countries. Other updates include location information for Apple Stores, businesses, movie theaters, restaurants, airports and transit stops.
