It has not been a great summer for RIM. They have battled foreign governments over privacy, and have seen their marketshare drop to their competitors. Now comes more bad news from a very large US company. According to Bloomberg, JPMorgan Chase & Co. may soon let employees use iPhones and Android devices for corporate e-mail. That is very bad news for RIM.
RIM has had a strong foot hold in the corporate arena for quite awhile now. If large companies start switching over to iPhones or Android devices for their users, RIM will find it very difficult to make up the slack in the consumer market.
Bloomberg's sources do not want to be named, but they say JPMorgan is testing iPhones and Android devices for their employees. JPMorgan is the second largest bank in the U.S. with about 220,000 employees worldwide.
Bloomberg also says that UBS AG, Switzerland’s biggest bank, may also switch mobile platforms. UBS has more than 63,000 employees.
