Apple to patch Jailbreakeme exploit with software update

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - August 05, 2010

Apple will issue a software update to fix the PDF security issue that allows the Jailbreakme.com website to jailbreak your phone via a web page.

An apple spokesperson told CNET:

"We’re aware of this reported issue, we have already developed a fix and it will be available to customers in an upcoming software update."

Although jailbreakers will be disappointed, this is a serious security flaw that needs to be fixed. There are apparently two flaws in iOS that allow the jailbreak to work from a website, and any malicious hacker could cause problems for iPhone users by exploiting the flaws. Charlie Miller of Independent Security Evaluators told CNET, "one flaw is in the way the browser parses PDF files, enabling the code to get inside a protective sandbox, and the other hole allows code to break out of the sandbox and get root, or control, privileges on the device."

There is no word from Apple on when the patch will be released. Jailbreaking is a cat and mouse game you play with Apple. You can run all kinds of fun software but you always have to beware of the next software update from Apple. Is it worth it? Maybe.
