SoftBank Mobile gives free iPhones in Japan

Japanese carrier SoftBank Mobile is offering customers a free 8GB iPhone if they'll sign up for a 2-year contract. What a deal. The iPhone used to sell for $235US with a contract but the Japanese public has had a luke-warm reception to the iPhone. The catch? The special pricing runs only until the end of May.

The 16GB iPhone in Japan dropped in price from $350 to $118.
