Best Buy sends out survey about "Apple HDTV"

Best Buy has been sending a survey to customers to get feedback on upcoming products and services. Most retailers do this on a regular basis, but this one seems to layout some specifics about a product they call the Apple HDTV. The Verge got its hands on the survey and it's interesting to say the least. Best Buy seems to layout some interesting specifications of the new iTV.

iPhone 5 to have Liquipel waterproofing treatment

There is a rumor floating around that the next version of the iPhone and the Galaxy S III will have Liquipel waterproofing treatment applied. Today's iPhone quotes a well placed source that has made some correct calls in the past, especially in regards to the launch of the white iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S.

Apple now no. 3 in global smartphone sales

IDC has released new global smartphone market share numbers and Apple is now number 3 worldwide. According to IDC, Nokia is still number one, and Samsung is number two. The iPhone 4S obviously helped Apple take the number 3 slot.
Apple jumped into the third spot globally from the fifth spot last quarter thanks to a record-breaking quarter of shipments. Photos of iPod nano with built-in camera emerge

A Japanese website called Apple.pro has published photos of an iPod nano sporting a built-in camera. I have no idea if these pics are legit. According to CNET, the same website previously published pics of a purported nano sporting a camera, but it turned out to be just the "backside of some hollowed-out aluminum casing." This time, the pics include what looks like the exterior shell of a nano.

Apple has hired former Dixons Retail CEO John Browett as Senior Vice President of Retail. Mr. Browett will be in charge of Apple's retail stores and will help the company expand its retail stores around the world.

Apple puts employees on fake projects until they can be trusted?

We all knew that Apple is a very secretive company and keeps information very close to its vest, but we didn't know they created fake projects for new hires. In an interview relating to the sale of his new book, Adam Lashinsky claims Apple sometimes assigns new hires to fake projects until they are confident they can be trusted.

Police officer uses his own iPhone to track criminal and stolen iPhone

After a woman's phone was stolen at gun point in a New York handbag store, a police officer used his own iPhone to track the criminal using the "Find My iPhone" feature.
After a fruitless canvass of the area, one officer, Robert Garland, tried another tack. Using the 24-year-old victim’s iTunes account information and the iCloud feature on his own phone, Mr. Garland was able to track the victim’s iPhone.

Custom notification banners with Vexillum

If you're one of the people who have jailbroken your iPhone running iOS 5 you can take advantage of a new app in Cydia. Vexillum allows you to customize the notification banners you see when you receive a text message, email, etc. Vexillum allows you to customize the background color as well as the font color of your notifications.
The app is pretty simple to use. Once installed, you'll find its features in your Settings app. It is there you can choose the colors you want for your notifications.

Apple declined to break down iPhone sales by model when it released its financials, but a recent survey conducted by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners did it for us. It turns out that most people shopping for a new iPhone choose the 4S. In fact, 89% of U.S. consumers who bought an iPhone between October 14 (iPhone 4S launch day) and December 2011 chose the 4S, while 7% chose the iPhone 4, and 4% bought a 3GS. Apple to give employees $500 off Macs, $250 off iPads

Apple CEO Tim Cook reportedly told employees in a town hall meeting today, that the company will be giving them a new benefit - $500 off a new Mac, or $250 off a new iPad. The new discount program will begin in June and all Apple employees who have worked at the company for at least 90 days are eligible. One major caveat is, they can only take advantage of this discount once every three years.

AT&T reports best-ever quarter largely due to iPhone sales

AT&T reported its best ever quarter and it was largely due to the iPhone. The fourth quarter of 2011 saw a 3.6% increase over the same quarter the year before. The company reported $32.5 billion in revenue, but still posted a loss of $6.7 billion.
AT&T activated 9.4 million mobile phones during the quarter, and 7.6 million of them were iPhones.

Motorola Mobility sues Apple over iPhone 4S, iCloud

Another day, another patent infringement lawsuit. This time Motorola is going on the offensive against Apple for infringing on six patents related to mobile services. Motorola is also going after Apple for its iCloud services which they say infringe on patents they hold.

Foxconn employee says iPhone 5 launching this summer

According to 9to5mac, a Foxconn employee says the iPhone 5 is ready for production and will be launched this summer. The employee says several sample devices are floating around so it's impossible to tell which one will be the final version.
All of the sample phones have the following features:
4+ inch display (made by LG on at least one of them)
No teardrop-shaped devices as were rumored in the lead up to the iPhone 4S. Samples so far have been symmetrical in thickness. Also longer/wider.
