Apple has released a new video about the San Francisco Pride parade on June 29, 2014. Apple employees and families took part in the parade. Apple gave out t-shirts and caps to parade walkers, and even raised the Pride flag over their Cupertino headquarters.
I love Apple, and use all of their products. I don't care who works at Apple and what their preferences are. I'm glad the company is inclusive, but I don't need political statements from a technology company. It seems oddly out of place. Imagine if Microsoft had taken the opposite view and created a video expressing their view. What if Google had produced a video about securing the border. In today's politically correct world it would likely mean a certain controversy. Would anyone celebrate their right to make a political statement? I doubt it.
Tim Cook was supposedly accidentally outed as gay recently by a reporter. Did anyone care? Did Apple's stock suddenly drop? No. Nobody cares. If Tim Cook continues to focus on making great products and people like what Apple offers, we couldn't care less about his personal views.
Apple is changing. The Beats acquisition is unlike anything we've seen from the company before. The recently announced changes to iOS and OS X seem uncharacteristically open for Apple. This political statement is also uncharacteristic and I hope it stays that way. Let me make up my own mind on political issues and just sell me the best products on the planet.
