According to a new report by The Wall Street Journal, Apple is testing larger displays for its phones and tablets. Apple has apparently requested the larger screens from its suppliers as it looks ahead at the iPhone and iPad. Apple declined to comment on the report.
Apple is notorious for testing various features in its devices, and it doesn't necessarily mean larger displays will show up anytime soon. It does mean that Apple is not tone deaf. Most other smartphone makers have displays over 4 inches, and the iPhone feels very small by comparison. Apple would be smart to offer a larger iPhone, but it sure looks like that will not happen for a least another year.
Apple in recent months has asked for prototype smartphone screens larger than 4 inches and has asked for screen designs for a new tablet measuring slightly less than 13 inches diagonally, they said. The current iPhone 5 has a 4-inch screen, while the iPad has a 9.7-inch screen. The iPad Mini, a smaller version of the iPad tablet, has a 7.9-inch screen.
