Every expects Apple's next iPhone to remain the same cosmetically. Apple has been on a 2 year rotation with iPhone hardware, and the second year of the two usually sees Apple making small internal changes while keeping the hardware basically the same. This year the world is expecting an iPhone 5S instead of an iPhone 6. A new report claims that the 5S will have fingerprint recognition that might cause people to upgrade their iPhone 5 handsets to the 5S.
Topeka Capital Markets analyst Brian White wrote, “we believe fingerprint identification technology will be part of the iPhone 5S and this is likely to be the major new feature used to market the iPhone 5S, similar to what Siri was to the iPhone 4S.”
Other similar reports have surfaced in recent weeks claiming the fingerprint scanner would be part of the home button.
Apple could definitely shake up the mobile world with a fingerprint scanner, especially if they tied it to some kind of mobile payment system. They already have over 500 million credit cards on file and could leverage that data to create some sort of mobile payment system using the iPhone. It would compelling because the fingerprint scanner could cut fraud costs way down.
