In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Apple Senior Vice President of Marketing, Phil Schiller, made it clear that Apple still believes the iPhone is better than Android. Android has out sold iOS around the world, but Apple believes the iPhone is not fragmented, and is better integrated as a device.
Mr. Schiller does have a point. The iPhone as a purchasing experience is unbelievable. Apple has been known for years as a company whose products "just work," and that's because they control everything about their products so insanely. If you give people few options, there is less chance of an error.
Mr. Schiller went on to cite Apple's research that more people switched to iPhone from Android in the last quarter, than the other way around. Really? That seems hard to believe, but okay.
It is interesting that this interview appears just as Samsung is just about to release the next installment in the Galaxy smartphone line. The timing cannot be coincidental.
"When you take an Android device out of the box, you have to sign up to nine accounts with different vendors to get the experience iOS comes with," he said. "They don't work seamlessly together."
