According to Bloomberg, the U.S. Government has filed an antitrust lawsuit against Apple and five publishers in New York district court claimingi the companies colluded in eBook price fixing. The publishers named are Hachette SA, HarperCollins, Macmillan, Penguin and Simon & Schuster .
Hachette, HarperCollins, and Simon & Schuster. have already agreed to settle the suit. US Attorney General Eric Holder said that if approved by the court, the settlement would resolve DOJ's antitrust concerns with these companies. The publishers will be required to give retailers like Amazon and Barnes & Noble the ability to reduce prices on ebook titles. The settlement also requires the companies to end their "anticompetitive most-favored-nation agreements with Apple and other ebook retailers."
The Government will continue their suit against Apple, Macmillan and Penguin. The companies have vowed to fight the government's case.
