China Mobile, the state run cell carrier that boasts 655 million users, announced that it has 15 million iPhones on its network despite the fact that they don't offer Apple's device yet. 15 million users have brought unlocked iPhones into the country and are running them on China Mobile's 2G network.
Even more impressive is the fact that they have seen an increase of 5 million iPhone uses since last October when they only had 10 million. At that rate they are seeing an increase of more than 35,000 per day.
Apple's agreement with rival China Unicom is set to end which may pave the way for more iPhone users to join China Mobile. Also, because China Mobile's 3G network has not been compatible with the iPhone 4S so iPhone users have been limited to the 2G network. Rumor has it that Apple will issue an update for the iPhone 4S that will allow it to run on China Mobile's network.
