Could Apple have to pay Google a royalty on iPhone and iPad sales?

News - By: SPBlast! Staff - February 07, 2012

If Motorola gets its way, Apple will have to pay a royalty on iPhone and iPad sales from last year. According to the Wall Street Journal, Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc., which is being acquired by Google Inc., filed a letter it previously sent to Apple in a California court, seeking a 2.25 percent royalty on some iPhone and iPad sales. The royalty, if awarded, would be worth about $1 billion.

Are you as sick of these patent lawsuits as I am? Google agreed to pay $12.5 billion to purchase Motorola Mobility and this is likely one of the reasons. It's obvious that these technology companies are scrambling to get as many patent portfolios as possible.
