A Shanghai court has sided with Apple in an iPad trademark dispute, paving the way for Apple to continue selling the iPad in China, for now. The court rejected Proview International’s attempt to stop Apple from selling the iPad and has given Apple some breathing room in the dispute. The dispute is not over however, and Apple still has some legal battles over the iPad name in China.
Apple's next hearing in the matter is scheduled for February 29th in China’s southern province of Guangdong.
The decision, announced on Thursday on the court's website, gives Apple some leeway in a larger battle over the iPad trademark in China, which is important to Apple not only as a consumer market, but also because the country is a major production base for the iPad and other of its products.
Its attention will now shift to the appeal it has filed against an earlier decision in Proview's favor by a court in Shenzhen, in the southern province of Guangdong.
