When Siri was introduced with the iPhone 4S and hackers immediately tried to port the service to non-4S devices. They got Siri working on older iPhone 4s via jailbreak, but it looks like Apple is stepping in to block Siri on unapproved devices.
Recently, several reports have emerged of non-iPhone 4S devices no longer being allowed to communicate with Siri's servers. It turns out there is a “SetActivationToken” property list file which disables attempts to communicate with the server. It appears that Apple is trying to block unauthorized users from accessing Siri's servers.
Some users have reported a fix. If you delete the com.apple.assistant.plist file from the var/mobile/Library/Preferences/ folder it seems to get things going again, but how long will it take Apple to plug that hole?
