iPhone 5 to have dual core processor, 1GB RAM, new Assistant

News - By: SPBlast! Staff - September 26, 2011

The new iPhone is set to be announced very soon (probably October 4) and the speculation continues. 9to5mac has a long piece predicting a dual core processor, and 1GB RAM among other nice changes.
For example, the new 8 megapixel camera is rumored to rival point and shoot cameras and another good selling point for the iPhone. The additional RAM will make for better web browsing and better background process performace.

Although the hardware changes will be nice, the biggest addition to the iPhone 5 will be a system called "Assitant."

From what we’ve heard, the Siri-based Assistant is described as the biggest game changer in this year’s iPhone. The system is the evolution of the Voice Control function that was introduced alongside the iPhone 3GS in 2009 and it is the fruit of Apple’s purchase of Siri last year.

New features for the iPhone 5:

  • Apple A5 dual-core SoC
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 8MP rear camera, backlit sensor
  • Qualcomm GSM/CDMA Dual-Band radio
  • Siri-based Assistant that replaces Voice Control, and tied into Wolfram Alpha and Find my Friend
  • Nuance-based Dictation for voice-to-text
