White iPhone 4 not thicker than the black version?

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - May 02, 2011

There has been quite a bit of buzz about the fact that the white iPhone 4 is supposedly thicker than the black version. We've all seen numerous side by side photos which clearly indicate that the white iPhone 4 is a bit thicker. Now Consumer Reports weighs in on the issue and they say the white iPhone is not thicker.

Consumer Reports used a high quality calipers to measure the two devices. In their tests, both phones measured the same thickness of 0.37 inches.

Apple's Phil Schiller tweeted recently, “it is not thicker, don’t believe all the junk that you read."

So what accounts for all the photos we saw of the white iPhone that was clearly thicker? Perhaps it was just a few models that were thicker, or Apple has some quality control work to do. From Apple's perspective, both phones have the same specs.
