Apple engineers are apparently contacting individual iPhone 4S users to try and track down a battery drain issue with the iPhone 4S. When the iPhone 4S launched, Apple quietly passed along the specs on battery life and didn't make a big deal about the fact that the iPhone 4S has a standby life of 200 hours. The iPhone 4's standby life is 300 hours and the iPhone 3GS has a standby life of 250 hours.
Some users have been experiencing rapid battery drain and Apple is trying to figure out why. Apparently, Siri is not to blame. Some suspects are corrupt contact details, and background processes.
Interestingly, in my test of the iPhone 4S I found that the standby time was actually quite good. I left a fully charged unit on overnight, and in mid-morning the next day it was only at 98%. When using the phone it didn't seem to last as long as my iPhone 4, but it wasn't as dramatic as some users have reported.

One owner who was contacted by Apple told the Guardian: "My battery life was extremely poor - 10% drop in standby every hour. I noticed that the usage figure was roughly half that of standby, even when the phone was not being used, so I assumed something was crashing or running in the background. I switched off all the new features including Siri and location services, but it was still really poor. I also tried setting up a clean phone with no apps but it is still really poor.
