If you're an iPhone 4 user that uses a bumper you know the frustration of trying to find a compatible sync cable that fits with the bumper on. I tried several OEM sync cables, and even official Apple cables and none of them really worked well. Most of the OEM sync cables would not work at all, and the Apple cables barely worked as long as I didn't touch the phone.
The sync cable that came with the iPhone 4 works with the bumper on, but it does not snap in. If you touch the iPhone 4 while syncing the cable may dislodge. Taking the bumper off every time I want to sync is a deal breaker so I was searching for a solution.
I finally stumbled on to a solution by accident. I plugged my iPad sync cable into the iPhone 4 and it snapped right in and charged the phone. I cannot pull it out without pressing the release points on the charger and it works well.
What's the difference between the iPhone 4's sync cable and the iPad's charger? Good question. Check the photo to see them side by side. It appears that the iPad's charger has larger clips on the side that allow it to snap in past the bumper. Other than that I don't know what the difference is. I do know that unless there is some other significant difference, Apple should start swapping out the iPhone 4 sync cable with the iPad charger immediately and iPhone 4 bumper users can rejoice.
If you have a different solution let us know.
